Thank you for the top-level view. I still don't understand handles. I started a year or 2 ago with a substack.com registration and handle. Today I just tried to post a comment on a substack publication, but it kept asking for a handle name and I wanted to use the same handle everywhere. When I entered my default handle it says "that handle is already in use." So, does substack.com force you into creating unique handles for every substack publication you follow? If so, that is insane and will inhibit my participation. I like one handle that I use across whole substack domain, just as I have one handle for Youtube, one for twitter, insta, etc. How can I accomplish that?
I'm a septuagenarian in need of a strong coffee laced with Bailies! I've read Alex's explanation, but I'm confused, and it's not anything to do with the aging process. I subscribed to Northern Gravy and found myself here. Where am I? What is this place? Should I be here—I only possess an imaginary PhD in life experience. I've had short stories published since I started writing during the pandemic. I'm no Tolstoy but I'm combining my writing with my artwork in the hope of getting it published. Should I be putting stories on here? Going for coffee, wondering if I'll find my way back here.
I am a subscriber to the Bulwark and numerous other people on Substack. Does that mean I am a Substack subscriber?
I got an email from someone yesterday saying she is subscribing to me!! I don’t have a column or blog or ANYTHING! So how can this be? ((It’s on Substack)
I'm an author and trying to use Substack, but in all reality, don't understand it. It looks like you did what I did and become an content creator. In my case, I need to be there, but I didn't realize it until a little later that I was already in that zone. I was just trying to post a comment on Sean of The South's spot. IDK. Meanwhile, on blind faith, I'm posting what I need to support my upcoming cookbook on Pound Cakes. To add photos to my book would have put it in a cost zone above what I was comfortable with for my readers, so, bit by bit I'm adding content to support my book, and support my readers who may be people who have never baked a pound cake in their lives. Do I post the photos in Notes? Blog? Errrr. Elsewhere? Wish me luck! Carole L Albyn, Sweet Book of Perfect Pound Cakes.
Hi. I'm not sure how you are presenting your book, but I am collecting my short stories and flash fiction and will approach a publisher when it is ready. I have incorporated photos of my art work with each written piece as I would like it to be seen on each page. It has been an enjoyable experience following guidelines on how publishers like manuscripts to be laid out - indenting, spacing, etc. I make sure the photos are cropped and use the Picture Format in Word to adjust and correct lighting which help to get a more professional result - I hope. Sorry this is a late reply. Navigating Substack has not encouraged me to spend time on it! As I previously said, I'm of an age where life is too short to struggle with social media.
Jacqui Butterworth. on checking my bank account I noticed a payment of £30 to your group. I never autherised this so can I please have a refund. On looking at your site I would not be able to follow it.
Getting close but have a few glitches to work out. Ok abuncha stuff but I'm gonna get there I think just maybe. If I may ask a question or 2 here with an explanation along with them, I am a faithful Meidas Mighty Member and on Patreon, my first social exchange experience bypassing FB TWIT SNPCHT BLUSK etc etc 2nd is Substack cause Ben saidso! Haha been with Substack a year maybe. Is it possible to link these two?
So, what are people being charged? Is it weekly, monthly, year? I'm lost on this as well. Is there only one Substack and from there you poke around till you find the person/s entries you want to read? A guideline step by step would be helpful.

THANK YOU ❣️
💙 Alex this is outstanding info thank you and I’d definitely like to see a pt II !
This is completely befuddling to me. I want to see how much I send monthly an entity but keep going around in circles.
I'm 85 and too old to learn new things like this.
We should form a club!
